ReplyDeleteGood example of the Flappers and how it kind of creates this image of modernism. The characteristics are spot on with what I found to be.
ReplyDeleteI found it very interesting how Hemingway used his own experiences to create these stories he wrote. Thank you for the summary as it really does help me understand how this short story fits into modernism.
I like the connection between Hughes's words to the rest of the country. I found the same in my Hughes poem. Good way of putting "I Too" into the characteristics of modernism.
Finally, I completely agree with your point of society shaping literature. I like how you cite Grapes of Wrath as an example of this.I also really like how you use all of the other literary periods as an example to back up what you believe.
Good project!
I agree with what Matt said. I think that most people share the opinion that society shaped literature... I really just don't see how it could be seen in any other way. Your historical references help show the characteristics of modernism came to be. There in itself is an example of how society shaped literature, because what the people were doing cause the literature to be about those different things. Overall these were some very good videos. Good support and a good project.
ReplyDeleteI thought your reference to the flappers was a really good idea. I also think that the flappers helped to form Modernism writing because they started to go against what the rest of society was doing, which is kind of what Modernism is about. I also agree that society shapes literature. Like in the case of the flappers, I think their attitude towards society reflected the attitude of literature towards society during that time period. I also found your references to all the wars and other historical things to be very good, and they helped me to understand a different point of view of Modernism that I had not thought of before. Also, good job making eye contact with the camera and not making it seem awkward!! haha
ReplyDeleteI REALLY ENJOYED YOUR VOCABULARY! I thought your definition of Modernism effectively represented the literary writing style. I also quite enjoyed, as well as everyone else apparently, your relation to the flappers. I believe the flappers adequately represented a relevance to Modernism. I also like how you spoke about most books being shaped by society. Your relation toward Hemmingway's novels and World War I were effective representations of society shaping literature.
